Microsoft Planning to Launch Windows 8 “Around October”

Microsoft is planning to launch its brand new Windows 8 operating system “around October,”Bloomberg said on Monday. The Redmond-based firm is planning to complete building the OS in April and hopes to have devices powered by both ARM and Intel chips on the market at the time of launch.

Microsoft Was Set To Run Windows on ARM Two Years Ago

The Verge reported today that Microsoft was due to run Windows on ARM chips for smart phones. The photos above show Windows 7 [running in classic mode] running on an Asus P835 smartphone and interestingly, they we’re taken in 2010 right before the iPad was announced by Apple in January.

CES: OnLive Desktop – Windows 7 Over The Air for iPad

We’ve reviewed various services like this that allow you to remote VNC your computer on your iPad or iPhone like LogMeIn and GoToMeeting. But they’ve always been scaled to the computer itself rather than to the size of the iPad. Theres also a lot of lag in both of them. But OnLive [yes the cloud gaming people] have released an iPad app which is capable of streaming a “no-compromise” version of Windows 7, complete with a full version of Microsoft Office adapted for touch.

Microsoft Announces Windows 8 Features

Windows 8, which was fully unveiled at the Windows Build Conference in Anaheim, California, is here, and it looks much, much different from Windows 7. Sure, it has the start-bar-and-icon “Desktop” look that Windows users are familiar with, but it also has a new, touchscreen-optimized interface called ‘Metro,’ which looks more like the Windows Phone operating system and which looks like the future of Microsoft Windows from here on out.

The touch-optimized interface was all Stephen Sinofsky, President of Windows, and Julie Larson-Green, Corporate Vice President of Windows, were talking about when they showed off Windows 8 to developers at the conference.

Watch Windows 8 Being Launched at BUILD Now!

Microsoft are currently in the process of showing off Windows 8 at their BUILD conference that is taking place in Anaheim California. You can watch the live stream over at http://www.buildwindows.com/ The live stream requires a Silverlight plugin [no surprise there] for Mac and PC users that don’t already have it.
